The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Tuesday cancelled a planned press briefing where it was supposed to comment on the political violence being perpetrated by the ruling Peoples Party (PP) and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
On Sunday, some PP and DPP supporters fought after president Joyce Banda conducted a rally through which minister Gottani Hara insulted DPP president Peter Mutharika.
A police officer was killed after he shot dead a civilian.
Thyolo is the home district of Mutharika.
On Monday night, PP thugs attack DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi and Mutharika’s personal aide Ben Phiri at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
Phiri is battling for his life at Mwaiwathu Hospital.
MCP was to join may activists, diplomatic missions and CSOs in condemning the violence.
