Afrobarometer opinion polls were not genuine – PP

The Peoples Party leadership has trashed the Afrobarometer opinion poll  that tipped  Democratic Progressive Party DPP president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to win with 27% margin in the forthcoming tripartite elections.

The polls pins Malawi Congress Party MCP President Dr Lazarus Chakwera second with 21% and PP’s president Joyce Banda on third with 19% and United Democratic Front President Atupele Muluzi fourth with 14% respectively.

However the poll results indicate that about 15% of voters were undecided and others kept the voting cards to their chest on whom they would vote for during the coming elections.

” The Afrobarometer opinion polls were not genuine as they were bent at confusing voters over the incumbent president Banda whom he said has massive support across the country than any presidential candidate.” said Paul Maulidi.

Peoples Party Secretary General said president Banda will win the coming elections with a resounding majority and that people should not be swayed by various opinion polls including that of the Afrobarometer.

Maulidi said the Afrobarometer researchers have the right to their own opinion but they cannot impose their line of thinking on every voter saying most voters are in favour of president Banda who has delivered in line with their wish in the past two years.
