Chakwera bemoans handouts

0

Opposition Malawi Congress Party torch-bearer in the May 20 Elections Dr Lazarus Chakwera has accused the country’s current leadership of lacking vision in running government affairs, citing the practice of giving handouts to the poor.

Speaking to a mammoth crowd that turned up at a campaign rally held at Mzuzu Stadium in the Northern region of the country on Sunday Chakwera said no country in the world has ever graduated from the realms of poverty through handouts.

The MCP leader told the gathering that it was distasteful to note that despite the numerous handouts initiatives being offered by the current regime, the gap between the rich and the poor remained serious, a clear indication that handouts benefit only the rich in government and not the intended poor.

He then reiterated his party’s commitment that once given the mandate to rule the country again, the MCP government will do away with the culture of handouts which he blamed for laziness amongst the citizenry.

He then called upon the gathered crowd to vote for him and the Malawi Congress Party in the forthcoming elections if the people are to taste real transformation of their lives.

“I ask you all to vote for me Lazarus Chakwera in these elections, not because I am giving you handouts in this campaign but because you desire to see change of things in a Malawi to come after 20 May,” he said.
