The country’s vice president Khumbo Kachali has officially joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) with a strong voice urging Northerners to vote DPP’s Professor Peter Mutharika in power come May 20 Elections.
This comes days after resigning from the governing People’s Party which he co-founded with President Joyce Banda.
Kachali previously served as transport minister during the former president Bingu Wa Mutharika DPP led government and he was booted out of the party after being accused of forming parallel structures.
Kachali and President Banda stopped seeing each other eye to eye when he sidelined as PP running mate after President Banda opted for youthful Central Region politician Sosten Gwengwe.
Kachali told the rally held in his constituency that he resigned from PP due to lack of sound leadership that the party has and urged the people not to vote for the Party and Joyce Banda.
He also urged the people to forget the past and forge ahead for a brighter future of the nation.
Kachali said each PP has governing challenges and Professor Mutharika is the only strong leader that can alleviate the country from the current economic mess.
He appealed to Mutharika that when he wins elections on May 20 he will have to develop the northern region than abandoning it.
He said a lot of candidates abandoned the Northern region due to its small population therefore urged the Northerners to unite and massively vote Mutharika in power.
