Thugs hack police officer on duty

0

Thugs have hacked a Police Officer while on duty with the Malawi National Examination Board (Maneb) in safeguarding examination papers in Nkhata Bay.

Police Constable Mutchoka is battling for his life at Nkhata Bay District Hospital after armed robbers hacked him in the head and tied him up Monday night at St Maria Goreth Teacher Development Centre in the Northern part of Malawi.

Maneb is administering Junior Certificate Examinations and the trend is that the Police provide security for the papers countrywide.

Against numerous calls for the re-introduction of the ‘Shoot To Kill’ Policy which when the former president late Bingu wa Mutharika introduced and brought some law and order in the country, the government has said it will strategise on how to  bring law order.
The Policy was discarded two years ago when Dr.  Joyce Banda took over government from the late Mutharika.

But Blantyre residents feel enough is enough and they are still propagating for the Policy, saying certain policies come into effect due to the prevailing circumstances.

The development follows their dissatisfaction over the manner in which the law enforcers are treating law breakers including armed robbers and killers, which they say has led to laxity in security countrywide.

Memories are fresh in people’s minds of the  panga wielding thugs who mercilessly hacked to death a Rwandan National and attacked his family in Chigumula, before stealing household property.

Also in Chigumula, thugs attacked a CCAP minister and stole valuable property at the Manse.

He was admitted at MASM Clinic in Limbe, Blantyre.

Last weekend armed robbers shot dead business man Serafim Fernando Da Silva in the township of Manja, Blantyre before escaping with over K2 million in a daylight robbery.

But Home Affairs and Internal Security has said that the Policy will not resurface but that the Police will do everything possible to bring back sanity in the country. Minister Responsible, has assured the general public and business people of an improved security.

“Let me assure the business community that one of our priorities in this country and with this government is to provide maximum security and to our people including the business community” Minister Paul Chibingu said in the wake of the calls.
