PETER TO SUPPORT FEDERALISM, AS KEN NDANGA AND RAPH JOOMA COMMENTS

0

With the central region joining recent debates on calls for a transition of Malawi from the current unitary government system to a Federal Government system, Mr. Ken Ndanga (the UDF party’s Publicity Secretary) and Raph Jooma had this to say.

Ken is saying if the matter is motivated by issues of power, there is no guarantee that DPP will be ruling forever.

“Let us not destroy our country for selfish reasons.

“But if not, we need to understand the need for the federal system, If the system is the solution to the current problems, then it is viable,” he said.

Afriem believes the citizenry needs to understand the need for the federal system. Critical research and analysis needs to be made public on the system of government and may be federal system of government can be the solution to Malawi’s problems.

Some also believe the system supports the ideas of APM since he is keen to devalue his powers as he promised in his campaign.

However Raph Jooma thinks that could have worked if the calls were coming from the president himself.

“Compared to those who did not put devaluation of Presidential powers as a campaign tool, Yes, Peter Munthalika and MCP must be happy with federalism.

“Maybe it is not exactly the way he wanted it since it is now coming from the people may be he had another way in mind,” he said.

“But since its somebody who is already willing to give some powers, i do not think he should resist the calls than those who in the first place where not even willing to.
