The former president of Malawi Joyce Banda took two of the three vehicles Mphwiyo bought from Toyota Malawi using government money.
In that respect some are suggesting Banda will face arrest sooner or later in cashgate as she took two of the cars which were bought by Mphwiyo from Toyota.
Police arrested Mphwiyo on October 9 for allegedly buying three cars from Toyota Malawi using a government cheque . He was later released on bail on the same day.
The same Police also took in custody Richard Makondi the newly appointed chairperson of Escom on corruption charges.
Makondi was arrested following investigations linked him to ‘cashgate’ during his tenure at the country’s top car
franchise, Toyota Malawi.
Makondi, a friend of President Peter Mutharika, was Marketing Manager at Toyota Malawi before he joined politics and was later appointed organising secretary by the DPP.
After Police interrogations Makondi was lreleased on bail.
The same Makondi was named by President Mutharika on Monday as new chairman of
Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).
