A 32-year old Chris Upindi and his 30-year wife, Efida are in police custody after the law enforcers found them illegally keeping a consignment of medical drugs suspected to have been stolen from a yet to be established source.
Afriem understands that a vehicle offloaded the cartoons in Mchesi township in capital Lilongwe> The cartoons were about 20 on Monday September 7 2015 evening which prompted some good citizens to tip off the police of the suspicious goods.
The police responded by organizing a raid during the wee hours of Tuesday where they managed to get the cartoons that had such drugs as amoxyl and bactrim with a government of Malawi label which indicates that the source should be from a government facility.
According to Lilongwe police spokesperson, Kingsley Dandaula, investigations are still under way but officials from the Central Medical Stores, which buys medicines on behalf of the government of Malawi, and officials from the Malawi Medicines and Poisons Boards have identified the consignment to be of medical drugs and the government of Malawi.
Other sources suggest that this is not the first time the woman has been arrested with a similar offence……updates to follow.
