Defender Fodya aims high on SL score sheet

2010 TNM Super League best defender who has turned out to be the country’s best free kick specialist Yamikani Fodya has said that he would make every effort to assist his team scoring goals from free kicks or corner kicks, a feat many Malawian players of the current crop are shy of.

The Bullets defender who is cool on the game and probably the smartest player on Malawi football pitch, believes that he can be one of the contenders for the Golden Boot award if he continues mastering free kick shoot outs.

“While my main job is to stop strikers from scoring I think that I can take advantage of my mastery in scoring from free kicks to register more goals and contend for the top goal scorer, or at least be the top goal scorer for defenders,” said the soft spoken defender.

Afriem can report that Fodya who is called aHedimasta has scored in the Mafco second round first league game from a free-kick in addition to games against Civo United, Dedza Young Soccer Stars and Silver Strikers in the first round.

Fodya’s goal helped Big Bullets maintain a non beaten record in the SL. They lead the chart with 35 points.

The leagues’ current lead scorer is Innocent Bokosi of Red Lions with 10 goals followed by nine goals from Green Harawa of Silver Strikers. Fodya has four.

There was a time one Clement Kafwafwa, a defender could earn game time because he was very good on throw ins.

This Sunday, Bullets plays host to Red Lions of Zomba.
