The fairy-tales of love are day by day being delivered through music using different genres, in this “Oh mi love” dancehall hit two artists from two neighboring countries, Zimbabwe and Zambia combine efforts.
The main theme of the song is none love; the two dancehall ‘Lions’ are manly applauding a woman for her love. The way she loves gives a man satisfaction that influences him to stick to her while giving a blind eye to other women around. Love is being described as having company, probably the girls beauty.
Part of the chorus sounds, ” oh mi love, give me, give me what I wanna, Chikondi chomwe umandipasa ndi chokwana, girl you g@ me addicted, you Marijuana.” The chorus beautifully summarizes the whole concept in very few but sensible words. The implicit comparison between the addictiveness of Marijuana to the girls’ love, explains the gravity of her love.
The first verse is well constructed, the artist portrays the girl’s beauty as being the main contributing factor towards his love for her, on the other hand the two factors are being considered to go hand in hand, in other words, to be interdependent. The artist claims the girl forces him to sing for her which he does not resist since the girl’s beauty makes it impossible to do so.
Just like in the first verse, the hype continues in the second verse but this time much stronger, the artist says the girl is hotter than the sun. This simply tells that she is very beautiful because only the very best can beat the sun.
Both artists have given it their very best, had it not been for involvement of vernacular languages, listeners would mistake the track to be from Jamaica the home of dancehall. The delivery is wonderful, they have done dancehall the way it is supposed to be done.
The message is very clear, a listener can easily connect the relationship between beauty and love having listened to it. The artists have accommodated even those with humble intellectual ability as they do not beat around the bush but conveys the message straight forward.
Rating the song out of 10, it deserves an 8 with some flaws in production preventing it from grabbing the whole 10. However the production is moving towards the best.
