Malawi will never run short of drama. News is circulating that someone calling himself a concerned citizen is advocating for the purchase of Presidential Jet, of which recently certain quarters joked that the Mutharikas are obsessed with presidential jets.
Sydney Ndembe whose other details and affiliations are yet to be uncovered has argued that since all countries across the world have their own presidential jets Malawi need to have one by whatever cost with the exception of UK.
In his reasoning he says Chief Executives for companies have official mode of transport as such it is also befitting that the President should have his.
“We never heard that any of them was at bus stop waiting for a bus to go anywhere. Now we hear of our President has spent hours to get on a plane to go on official trips. Have we no conscious at all? Are we not ashamed?
“The Jet we had is said to have been bought at twenty million US dollars. It may be possible to get another at about twenty million US dollars which translate into MK12 billion,” he said.
Ndembe who many think is a plant of DPP and that his campaign will soon be bankrolled by DPP gurus directly or indirectly to claim that they bankrolled for the purchase of Presidential jet for their president has said that he has pumped in MK200, 000 as Starter Pack.
“Now my appeal to well-wishing Malawians is this, why can we not contribute to purchase our own new plane which no one will point finger at us,” said Ndembe.
His calculations are that if the campaign gets offers of around MK120, 000 it will just need 100,000 people to reach the targeted MK12 billion. These can be drawn from the DPP zealots and seal the deal.
President Mutharika has on several times ruled out the possibility of purchasing a new Jet soon despite rumours being live on the social media that he is planning to buy a new Jet.
Recently, Mutharika received heavy criticism from all corners of the world for hiring a Jet to United Nation General Assembly at a cost of MK300 million.
A picture went viral on social media showing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika stranded at the airport en route to Malta for Commonwealth summit, a development people saw as a gimmick by the DPP to push for the purchase of a presidential jet.
“They are losing sleep and they will not rest until the jet is bought and come 2016 you will see Mutharika flying in his own plane,” said a commentator in Mangochi. He added: This Ndembe man is someone that you shouldn’t underrate.
This is a plan from the DPP intelligence and just keep your fingers crossed.”
