BLANTYRE: THE CITY OF DREAMS

20

By Chakwera

The city that captures the dreams of Malawians.

This city is older than Kenya’s Nairobi, older than Zimbabwe’s Harare, older than South Africa’s Johannesburg.

This city is the home of The Supreme Court, because there once was a generation of Malawians who dreamed of a country governed by the provisions of law, not by the directives of men.

We can make that dream come true.

This city is the home of The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, because there once was a generation of Malawians who dreamed of a country informed by national news, not misinformed by political propaganda.

We can make that dream come true.

This city is the home of The University of Malawi’s College of Medicine, Polytechnic College, and the Kamuzu College of Nursing, because there once was a generation of Malawians who dreamed of a country whose young people spent their time being educated, not being frustrated by their own government.

We can make that dream come true.

This city is the home of The Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital because there once was a generation of Malawians who dreamed of a country whose government would give doctors the medicine and equipment they needed to care for our citizens, not sending patients to their deaths in hospitals without supplies.

We can make that dream come true.

This city is surrounded by Mount Soche, Ndirande Mountain, Chiradzulu Mountain, and Michiru Mountain, because before Malawians were misled to believe that our country’s problems are so great that they can only be overcome by donor countries, there was another generation of Malawians who believed that there was no obstacle or mountain between us and our dreams that we could not overcome on our own if we work together.

We can make that dream come true.

We The Malawi Congress Party we are the party of choice for a new generation.
