Recruitgate at Police as DPP Ministers send fake candidates

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has been called upon to move in quickly to investigate claims by police across the country that some authorities in the Malawi Police Service (MPS), the Democratic Progressive party (DPP) and government have put their weight behind the fake recruitment process of the current recruits in the MPS.

The Malawi Police conducted interviews for recruits last two months which involved written, oral and mediacl tests conducted across a period of three months.

It has however transpired that some influential figures in the ruling DPP, the police and government are bringing in their own people suffocating the intake figures and bringing in fears as some of the people are beleieved to be behind the mafia type of life that the DPP is best at.

The disgruntled police officers, most of whom are junior officers, have since threatened a countrywide strike if the ACB will not save the situation.

Our sources from Limbe and Dedza have confided in Afriem Reporting crew that trainers at Police Training School (PTS) have boycotted training since Wednesday saying they cannot train people who were not successful during interviews.

“These are the people who are coming with letter from the headquarters yet they were not interviewed,” said one of trainers in Limbe.

Afriem visit to the institution both on Wednesday and Thursday revealed that there was tension as seen by the tight security and meetings being held by authorities.

Recruits were also seen just loitering while others had with them luggage at the main gate as there was no one to show them where to go since people were not sure of who was illegible or not,” said another source.

He added: “42 Police recruits have been withdrawn and about one thousand are exceeding the normal figure here at the PTS such that Limbe Trainers are on strike and pushing the head of Human Resources and the ACB to investigate the presence of fake Recruits here.”

Another explained that some of the fake candidates do not have MSCE papers while others did not have attend any interview.

“Some are holders JCE yet they have original invitation documents. There are also some with fake invitation letters and those who came in Lorries as sent by Minister of Information and Civic Education Patricia Kaliati and Minister of Trade Joseph Mwanamveka, all powerful Ministers in the DPP,” she said.

Elsewhere in Dedza, the Deputy Commandant at Mtakataka Police Training School has already sent back all who do not appear on the original list even if they have invitation letters duy signed by authorities at the headquarters.
“Some are JCE holders yet entry qualification is MSCE,” bemoaned a source in Dedza.

The Head of HR a Mr. Chambuluka and ACB officials are said to have ben locked in a meting and could not be contacted.
