The body of late Chakuamba left College of Medicine at exactly 9:30am with no government official despite President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika ordering it to be State funeral.

As this was not enough, Chakuamba’s body was carried ordinary hearse. The body of Chakuamba will lye in state until tomorrow when it will leave for Nsanje for burial on Friday October 29, 2016. 14469616_889892911140628_5911805658081153225_n

Former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi who is also founder of the United Democratic Front (UDF) on Wednesday led Malawians in paying homage to the departed veteran politician late Gwanda Chakuamba at COMESA Hall in Blantyre.

Chakuamba died on Monday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after long battle with kidney failure.

Timeliness is one of the factors that make news to be news. That’s why reporters report even at somebody’s point of death. It’s not being insensitive but let’s just accept it as one of those things.

The funeral is yet to be conducted at Fatima in Nsanje or wherever family has chosen, isn’t it? So where was this one that Govt. officials boycotted? Is transporting a dead body also a funeral service?

    • Evangelist Chipi Levison October 27, 2016 at 4:27 pm -  Reply

Funeral service starts soon after death

    • Wax Ligomba October 27, 2016 at 5:20 pm -  Reply

Does it? I think that must be when closely related, however, the real service is for burial… when people congregate for final prayers. I know you’re in defence of an aspect alluded to in the post above. But that won’t change reality on the ground as it were.
