Cop shot at Mulanje roadblock

Unknown men in Mulanje have shot a police officer in the left leg at Mimosa roadblock in Mulanje.

Confirming the incident, Mulanje Police spokesperson, Sergeant Ngwira said that the shot cop is now receiving treatment at Mulanje hospital.

“The suspects were in a minibus which the police at Mimosa roadblock stopped to inspect.

“To the surprise of the shot officer Masautso Phiri, the shooter was unwilling to have his plastic bag inspected.

“When sub inspector Phiri called for backup, the suspect decided to shoot the cop in the left leg and ran away together with his friend ,” he said.

The spokesperson further said that sub inspector Phiri has been severely injured and he is receiving medical attention at Mulanje hospital.

He will soon be taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for further treatment because he was shot more than twice and his bones have cracked,” he said.
