Chakwera to squeeze govt on K236bn cashgate & maizegate

As parliament reconvenes this Monday, opposition parties in the country have said they will seek answers from government on what the state is doing to bring to book culprits in K236 billion cashgate as well as the maizegate.

PP president, Uladi Mussa said that government is letting the K236 billion cashgate die a natural death.

“Nothing is happening in this case and we are not happy at all. We want answers from government as to why it is not taking the K236 billion cashgate seriously,” he said.

Mussa said that scandals like the maizegate are becoming rampant because government is not doing anything to fight corruption.

“People are now stealing with confidence because they know that under the DPP nothing happens to fraudsters,” he added.

In a similar fashion, leader of opposition, Lazarus Chakwera urged fellow parliamenterians to demand aswers in the maizegate.

“We have to play an oversight role and make sure we use the findings of the inquiry parliamentary committee probing the maize scandal.

” We have to make sure people who have been implicated in the maize scandal face justice,” he said.

Parliament will reconvene this Monday the 6th of February for the mid year budget review. According to legislators apart from reviewing the budget the probability is high that the maizegate and the cahsgate will take center stage.
