Robert Ng’ambi targets Nedbank Cup glory with Platinum Stars

0

Platinum Stars midfielder Robert Ng’ambi has set his sights on going all the way to win the Nedbank Cup in order to “bring glory back to the team.”

Stars have had a difficult start to the season, finding themselves languishing down in 13th place in the league, with just 14 points from 14 games thus far.

However, the final cup competition of the season is a chance for the Rustenburg-based outfit to turn things around, and having been drawn against AmaZulu in teh opening round, Ng’ambi believes it is a chance to spark some life into their campaign.

“This is the time where we have to turn things around and start with this trophy,” Ng’ambi told his club’s official website.

“It’s been years without winning and looking at a team like Platinum Stars, we haven’t been doing well in the league.

“This is the time that as the players we have to step up for the team and make sure that we bring the glory back to the team.”

He added: “In the Nedbank Cup, there’s no easy game. All those small teams are hungry and they want to win. For us, we have to up our game and make sure that we perform so we can go through to the next stage.”

The 30-year-old Malawi international is well aware of the threat Usuthu will pose, but believes playing in their own backyard will come as a massive boost.

“We know AmaZulu, they have played in the PSL before. You know in this cup, there’s no small or big team. We will be prepared for them,” he added.

“It’s good for our confidence that we are playing at home. We have to make sure that we kill them at home and advance to the next round.”
