A Personal account by D.R. Ching’ani
On the way to Ngabu Saturday morning coming from Lilongwe in a company of a dozen party leaders and Youth who I had picked in my small bus, everybody donning MCP regalia, we decided to make a stopover at Shoprite, located at Chichiri Shopping mall in Malawi’s commercial city Blantyre.
I tell you we were quite a spectacle to watch. You could tell that we had captured an unavoidable attention (thanks to the rebranded MCP). Who doesn’t know at this moment that the Kamuzu –Tambala wrapper is gold!
Our boys in black, red & Green berets pinned with the Chakwera badges! The ladies and boys in Chakwera branded tee shirts! The people were seeing a brand of a party that chokes many with nostalgia.
Yes memories of those sweet years of excellence. The people are watching and marvelling at a Government in waiting.
WOWH! Others could not hold themselves any longer but to ask if we had any spare party material.s “Where can we get these?” They asked.
That we were on our way to Ngabu was not in doubt. And when we finally descended the Chikwawa hills and arrived at the Venue, it was evident that this was not like any other day.
What happened at Ngabu, Makande Sports grounds is already talk of the moment The media, bus talk, market places, offices and the public will take quite a while debating about this day 15th July and the Political Earthquake which it unleashed.
Back to base in Lilongwe I have been amazed at the smiles and *THUMBS UP SIGN* flashed at me as I go about my routine business with the Chakwera badge on my lapel.
Imagine a thumbs up from the foreign traders at departmental stores(shopping malls) as I do may shopping upon seeing the Chakwera badge on my jacket, the spectacle breeds sighs of hope, smiles of hope.
Thumbs up sign from the Police manning the road blocks, Vendors, Clergy, Motorists, College students, An adage in my vernacular fits these sweet times *Dzuwa Salozelana* meaning “A hot or bright sun gets noticed by itself with no aide”, or “A good merchandise requires no advertising”.
Come on and join the victory train This afternoon I received the news of a contingent of prospective new recruits knocking on the MCP doors, “We don’t want to join you after you are already in government, but now” they claim.
Who can beat such wisdom? Surely these are sweet times to be associated with the Mighty National Party-MCP.
Of course, I cant allow myself to be flattered or contented by all this, I know there is a lot more work to be done. But it doesn’t dilute the fact that MCP is the party of the moment. You can choose to remain outside at your own (sad & unfortunate) risk *These are sweet times to be associated with the Mighty Party-MCP*
