Corruption levels in public procurement worries

ACB The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has expressed dismay over increased levels of corruption in government procurement processes. 

Speaking on the matter ACB director ,Reyneck Matemba said that alot of money is being lost.

"The theft is becoming sophisticated and alot of money is being lost. At the moment we are focusing on preventing the vice.

"As i have said already a lot is being lost when it comes to procuring. We need new ways of dealing with corruption," he said.

The current adminstration has been faulted for flouting procurement procedures in a number of deals.

For instance the K145 million Malawi police food deal, the K2 billion Teveta-gate, Egenco fuel-gate and the Tractor-gate.

The Prssident is implicated in the K145m cashgate as the money was found in a bank account to which the President is a signotory.

Goodal Gondwe is also reported to have pocketed some millions in the selling of Malawi Savings and Inde bank banks.

Muli also duped governmennt over K4billion on MSB cashgate while Chaponda was busy trying to walk away with money intended for the purchase of maize.
