Countries that depend on Mozambican ports are being warned that they may experience shortage of fuel and other products as the road to Beira has become almost impassable.
A circular from the Mozambican government has revealed that it will be difficult for countries to ferry their goods from Mozambique.
“There could be fuel shortage this coming week for most provinces of central Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and DRC as the road to Beira has been destroyed by cyclone Idai,” reads the document in part, adding:
” Two bridges along Chimoio Beira road have been destroyed and the road is difficult to pass through.”
The document has further advised affected countries to use fuel carefully as Mozambique reconstructs the damaged roads and bridges.
The cyclone has destroyed property and claimed lives of many people in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
