The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Kondwani Nankhumwa is planning on forming a new party after falling out with some Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) senior members.
Speaking to Afriem, a member of the Nankhumwa camp said that the new party will be stronger than the current DPP.
“They are fabricating lies that Nankhumwa uses a dead mans certificate. This is just a ploy to turnish the image of Nankhumwa.
“I can assure you that the the old gurus will take DPP to the grave but Nankhumwa is too smart to get burried together with the DPP, ” he said.
He further revealed that plans are under away for the Nankhumwa camp to break away from the DPP.
“Nankhumwa is the right man to take over from APM, but since the DPP grandfathers want to finish him off soon a new party will be formed and Nankhumwa will be a leader.
“I can assure you that alot of DPP members of parliament have shown interest to ditch DPP and join the new party, ” he added.
Reports indicate that this is the scheme of George Chaponda, Brown Mpinganjira, Henry Mussa and Francis Mphepo to finish off Nankhumwa, inorder to pave way for Chaponda to take over as party’s president when Peter Mutharika officially retires.
This is why when Mutharika asked the party administrative secretary, Mphepo, to suggest the name for the Leader of Opposition in parliament, Mphepo suggested Chaponda.
Chaponda and Mussa are always bitter with Nankhumwa because he embarrassingly defeated them for the position of party vice president for the south during the 2018 convention.
