Deputy Minister impressed with Linga Dam construction


The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Hon Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma says she is impressed with the progress of the construction of Linga Dam in Nkhata Bay, which has prospects of benefitting over 5 000 farmers when completed.

The Hon Nkusa Nkhoma, who on Friday toured the site, reiterated that the Chakwera Administration’s priority agenda is to make sure that Malawians live a good economic life. Hence the Agriculture Ministry is dedicated towards achieving that goal through realization of food security and job creation, among others.

“I am impressed with the great work which is being done at this site, and happy to hear that over 400 people are working towards the completion of the project,” said the Deputy Minister.

Linga irrigation scheme which is part of AIYAP (Agriculture Infrastructure and Youth in Agribusiness Project) is being constructed with a donation from African Development Bank and Malawi Government, and has an irrigation area of 1000 hectares. The works are expected to be complete before the end of the year.
Agricultural and Economic experts have projected that when completed, the project is expected to bring a lot of benefits to the surrounding communities that include high return in job creation, achieving food security in a sustainable development environment, women and youth economic empowerment, development of recreation activities and drainage and floods control.
