The First Lady, Madame Gertrude Mutharika has assured the United Nations General Assembly of the commitment of the Organization of the African First Ladies in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Madame Mutharika, who is the Vice President of the Organization of the Africal First Ladies, made the assurance during her address to the United Nations General Assembly delegates who attended the Every Woman Every Child Meeting in New York the United States.
She said the First Ladies of Africa would appeal to national governments and multilateral organizations to support continental initiatives on strengthening health systems and promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and adolescent girls.
She said this would help women and girls to exercise their reproductive rights, including access to safe, voluntary family planning services.
Madam Mutharika called on the UN agencies to invest in the health and empowerment of women, children and adolescents through protection of their rights to ensure healthy futures.
