MINISTER CHIMWENDO BASHES MEDIA REPORTS ON CELEBRATIONS EXPENDITURE

0

Homeland Security Minister Honourable Richard Chimwendo Banda, who was the chairperson for the ministerial Committee for independence celebrations, has bashed media reports that governmemt spent 247 million for independence celebrations. Chimwendo says the media has misrepresented information as the committee spent only K87 million out of the budgeted initial K243 million.

The minister says government will gazzettee the expenditure report next Wednesday for Malawians to know in details how the committee spent the tax payers’ resources.

He further says, the K156 million balance will be returned to the Governmmet account number 1.

The media speculated that government released over K230 million through a personal account of the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet.

But according to the Minister, this is unfounded allegation because no money was channelled through a personal account.
